SAFE POWER SUPPLY IN THE EX ZONES
INTRINSICALLY SAFE POWER ADAPTERS
Intrinsically safe power supply units are designed for powering devices located in the hazardous areas. Device has galvanically separated output power supply circuit from input power supply circuit.
Intrinsically safe power adapters – application
Intrinsically safe power supplies are designed to power devices located in explosion hazard zones that do not have any subsequent input and output circuits at the interface between the explosion hazard zone and the safe zone. In this case, the necessary condition is that the total amount of energy on the interface in question does not exceed the maximum allowable energy for a given device.
The presented requirements result from the applicable standards PN – EN 60079-0 and 60079-11. The maximum values of individual devices are included in the intrinsic safety certificates –
This device is fully certified – ATEX certification approved.
A typical example of incorrect use of an intrinsically safe power supply is, for example, powering a 4-20 mA current loop (pressure, temperature sensors, etc.) and directly connecting their output to a reading device that is not certified for connection to intrinsically safe circuits. For such installation, it is necessary to use the Mm5041 insulator or the MM 7087+ Zener barrier.
The input supply voltage is galvanically separated from the intrinsically safe output voltage.
